Mirik, a new hill station near Darjeeling, has a 1.25-km long lake, it is 52 km. from Siliguri and 55 km.from the nearest airfield at Bagdogra. Located at an altitude of 1,767.8 m., surrounded by tea estates, orange orchards and cardamom plantations, It has a small population of about 10,000 people.


The Sumendu Lake, at the bottom of Mirik spur. There is a floating fountain in the middle of the lake and a quaint little footbridge connects the flower garden on the


eastern bank to the heavily forested ridge on the west. The lake is provided with boating facilities.Major tourist attractions include the central Sumendu Lake, with the Devi Sthan of Mirik a little distance away. Rameetay Dara and Deosi Dara are two wonderful observation points, while Rai Dhap is a popular picnic spot. Short treks from Mirik are also conducted.

The Sumendu Lake

Sumendu Lake is located at the bottom of the Mirik Spur.It is the major tourist attraction in Mirik. There is a floating fountain in the middle of the lake. Boating and fishing are popular pastimes.On the west bank of Sumendu Lake there is a temple of Singha Devi, locally known as Devi Sthan.

Rameetay Dara

A viewpoint from where one can get a sweeping view of the plains and the mountains. Sunrise and sunset seen from this point are unforgettable sights.


Deosi Dara

Deosi Dara is a popular observation point offering a panoramic view of the surrounding plains, hills and peaks.

By Air :

  A 50 minutes hop . Daily Flights are operated by Indian Airlines / Jet Airways to Bagdogra (Siliguri), which is the nearest Airport. For more details please contact the nearest Airlines office.

By Train :

   Overnight journey. The famous Darjeeling Mail besides other trains operate on daily basis to the nearest railhead at New Jalpaiguri (Siliguri). You may also opt to travel from New Jalpaiguri by the quaint little "Toy Train" which winds its way up the hills to Darjeeling.

By Road :

   A fleet of luxury State/Private buses run over night to Siliguri.

From New Delhi -

By Air :

  2 hr. flight. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operate tri-weekley and daily flights to Bagdogra (siliguri) respectively.

By Train :

   A 24 hr. journey. The Prestigious Rajdhani Express beside other fast trains run on a regular basis to New Jalpaiguri , the nearest Railhead.


Mirik is connected by road from Darjeeling (49 km.), Bagdogra (55 km.) and Siliguri (52 km.). The Hilly Region Minibus Owners' Association provides minibus services from the Tenzing Norgay Central Bus Stand at Siliguri. The NBSTC also operates buses on this route. The DGHC includes Mirik in its package tour from Darjeeling.
