In Sanskrit, the name, derived from the world 'Durjay Ling', means 'Shiva of invincible prowess', who rules the Himalayas.The official name of the town is DARJEELING.

The town and hill station of Darjeeling lies in northern West Bengal,India. Darjeeling district lies between 26 31' and 27 13' north latitude and between 87 59' and 88 53' east longitude.

Darjeeling is a famous hill resort offering a breath taking sight of the numerous peaks of the majestic Himalayas. The views of Kanchenjunga and Mount Everest are particularly awe inspiring. The luxuriant vegetation is a plant lover's paradise. The finest blend of tea comes from various tea gardens of this region. The Buddhist Monasteries and the Hindu temples found here are of architectural and cultural importance. And the Himalayan physiography of lofty mountainous terrain and cascading rivers offers adventure sports like Trekking, Mountaineering and River Rafting.


Tiger Hill

Tiger HillPassing through primitive forests of oak, magnolia and beautiful ferns ablaze with color is the steeply ascending road to Senchal, running through Ghoom on its way toTiger Hill which is 11 km from the town and at an elevation of 2,590 meters (8,482 ft). To the summit of this internationally famous 'Hill', journey mountainand nature lovers to view the worlds most majestic mountain--Khang-Chen-Dzod-Nga, or mighty Kanchenjunga.

Samtencholing Monastery, Ghoom

Situated on Hill Cart road, this monastery is about 7kms from Darjeeling town. This monastery belongs to Gelugpa, Yellow sect.

From Calcutta -

By Air :

  A 50 minutes hop . Daily Flights are operated by Indian Airlines / Jet Airways to Bagdogra (Siliguri), which is the nearest Airport. For more details please contact the nearest Airlines office.

By Train :

   Overnight journey. The famous Darjeeling Mail besides other trains operate on daily basis to the nearest railhead at New Jalpaiguri (Siliguri). You may also opt to travel from New Jalpaiguri by the quaint little "Toy Train" which winds its way up the hills to Darjeeling.

By Road :

   A fleet of luxury State/Private buses run over night to Siliguri. From Siliguri buses, jeeps and private taxis are available to Kalimpong.

From New Delhi -

By Air :

  2 hr. flight. Indian Airlines and Jet Airways operate tri-weekley and daily flights to Bagdogra (siliguri) respectively.

By Train :

   A 24 hr. journey. The Prestigious Rajdhani Express beside other fast trains run on a regular basis to New Jalpaiguri , the nearest Railhead.
